Our story which began in Haridwar, with an emotional connection to the city and the river Ganges, is beyond words. The city provided a backdrop from where our enterprising forefathers started their journey with a small Prasad (sweets and other offerings to God) shop in Har Ki Puri, the stairway to heaven, over a century ago. The shop is well-known and loved and runs to this day on the goodwill of the community. Settling in different parts of the world to pursue our dreams, we have merely taken a leaf from our forefathers’ books. Yet our hearts and minds stay firmly rooted in Haridwar. As the shop stands testament to the growth around with teeming multitudes thronging the holy city, so does our abode, Sethi Legacy. This building served as more than a home; it was as much a repository of memories as it was a reservoir of dreams and a receptacle of ideas. Converting our house and home into a boutique hotel is but a humble attempt to give back to the community and honor the spirit of love and warmth that we grew up with.
Last year, one of my friend’s parents visited Haridwar from overseas. Looking for a place to stay, they called me for suggestions for a clean, hygienic, and a memorable hotel. I was a bit apprehensive to recommend just any hotel to them. But in my time searching for one, an idea dawned upon me – why not build such a place in our own home! It was centrally located and just a walk away from the Ganges. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, we completed our remodeling just in time to welcome the guests for the Maha Kumbh, celebrated every 12 years in Haridwar. We at Sethi Legacy believe in sustainable living, hence the presence of green and earthy corners in our hotel. The interiors of the hotel are thoughtfully designed to provide a soothing experience and help you connect with Haridwar at a different level. The art on the walls depicts the folk stories of Haridwar passed down over generations. Our terrace provides beautiful sunshine throughout the day and an unobstructed view of the Mansa Devi and the Chandi Devi temples, both situated on hilltops either side of the Ganges. An evening cup of chai while soaking in the breathtaking views of the temples provide a befitting end to any day.
With endless options for tourists and adventure-seekers, Haridwar provides ample avenues for everyone. Take a dip in the Ganges river, trek uphill to visit the temples, or ride in an open jeep in the Rajaji National Park where wildlife throngs unhindered. You are sure to encounter a herd or two of elephants nonchalantly crisscrossing the woods or spot various migratory birds soaring in the sky or grooming their young ones along the banks of the river; you may even be lucky to spot a tiger!
